Betty Ann (Cross) Hunter a long time resident of
Altus, Oklahoma passed away December 3, 2025 at her home in
Altus, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.
Born: May 21,1953 to Fuston and Mary Lou (Edwards) Cross in the family home near Bokchito, OK. Assisting in Betty's birth were her grandmother, Minnie Ola Edwards, and her oldest sister, Dorothy.
Preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Washington and Jane Cross, and Hubert and Minnie Ola Edwards, her husband, Thomas W.
Heston, sister Dorothy Inman, brother Norman Cross, sister, Lou Siemen, brother, JR Cross and nieces Sharon Strand and Diane Snock.
Betty is survived by her husband, Deryl Hunter of the home, her daughter, Becca Heston Reneau and husband John, grandchildren Ian Thomas and Riley Jordan, all of Wichita Falls, TX. She is also survived by her bonus children are Brandon Allen and wife Jennifer, and Desiree McKee and husband Matt, all of
Altus, OK. Betty's bonus grandchildren are Aden, Brookson, and Charlie Mae Allen, Kymbree, Pamela, Maci, and Madison McKee, also of Altus. Betty is also survived by her sisters, Anna Stinson, Dorene Armstrong and husband Jerry, Lorene Newson and husband Gary, and her brother, Phil Cross She is also survived by aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is also survived by a very special friend and mentor, Mickey Foster.
Betty became a Mother in her teen years to her only child, Rebecca Ann. She and her tiny preemie baby girl became inseparable. In 1979, she married Thomas W. Heston in Snyder, OK. Tom, Betty, and Becca made plans for their future together; however, before their plans came to fruition, Tom was tragically killed in a semi-truck accident.
Betty married Deryl Hunter in 1998 in their home in
Altus, OK They were joined in marriage by God and Bro. Keith Wiginton. Betty and Deryl enjoyed 27 wonderful years together. They traveled to many places together including Cancun, Dominican Republic, Lake Tahoe, and Santa Fe. They always enjoyed attending Ian and Riley's school activities and could always be seen in the stands cheering on their basketball and volleyball teams.
Holidays and special events were always spent together with Becca and her family eating delicious meals, playing games, and enjoying each other's company.
Betty grew up and attended school in Snyder, OK. She graduated from Western Oklahoma State College and Cameron University. She began her lifelong dream of being a teacher in 1984, being hired by Dr. Morris Foster, as a 6th grade math teacher. She was mentored by Mrs. Janelle Leverett and Mrs. Mickey Foster. She taught at Will Rogers Elementary, and transferred to Altus Middle School, and remained there through the transition to Altus Intermediate School. Betty taught her entire 30 year teaching career for Altus Public Schools, retiring in 2014. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, Altus Education Association, and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She was elected to "Who's Who Among American Teachers" in 1996 and 2005. Betty was also a member of the Delta Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for many years, serving in the capacity of many officers, and assisting in the Miss Altus Pageant during that time. Betty was a Christian and longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Altus.
In 2006, Betty was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She often told others that her faith in God, her family, and her friends helped her through her cancer journey. Becca and her family sent her weekly flower arrangements during her chemotherapy. Ian and Riley often celebrated their Mimi's survival, especially during October. Betty shared her cancer story with many women and encouraged them as they began their own cancer journey.
Betty's most treasured times were spent with her family. She especially enjoyed vacationing with Deryl and traveling to Wichita Falls to spend time with Becca and her family.

Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel,
Altus, Oklahoma with Pastor Doug Altom officiating.
