Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Rural Hall Chapel - Rural HallMrs. Betty Jean McGee James, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Stokes Co. on February 23, 1935, the daughter of the late Earnest William McGee and Lily Lorena Vaughn McGee. Betty was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Christian Church. She retired from Hastings Co. in King and then went to work as a private caregiver. Betty worked hard all of her life and always had a passion for whatever work she was doing. Her favorite place was Garden City Beach with her daughters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gray James; and two grandsons, Jamie Shamel and D.J. Edwards; and a great-grandson, Gage Edwards. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Edwards (Dallas) and Shawna Brannock (Isaac); three grandchildren, Michelle, Christa and Chad; four great-grandchildren, Josh, April, Kash and Brittany; two great-great-grandchildren, Cali and Declan; a sister, Kay Mykytyn Henning; a sister-in-law, Janie McGee; two brothers-in-law, Odis James (Linda) and Frank James; and many extended family members. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Dr. Will Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to United Baptist Church, Trellis Supportive Care or Poplar Springs Christian Church.
