Betty Lou Jensen, 83, of Dixon, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at her home in Dixon.
Betty was born on May 21, 1940, in Walnut, IL, the daughter of Gean and Ruth (Sarver) Middleton. She married Marlin Jensen on November 15, 1958, in Walnut.
Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marlin Jensen, of Dixon; two sons, Michael (Sherry) Jensen, of D'Iberville, MS, Alan (Donna) Jensen, Sr., of Dixon; two daughters, Marcia (Kurt) Keefer, of Germantown Hills, IL, Amy (Richard) Ringler, of Dixon; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Genevieve Walters, Rita Hallman, Jim Middleton, Charlotte VonHolten, all of Walnut, Lois Swanson, of New Bedford, Phyllis Kump, of Oregon, Jack Middleton of Ashland, Ohio, and Anita Carpenter, of Manlius.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie Landherr; and brother, Joe Middleton.
Betty was known as a "family legend" for her homemade noodles, a skill she learned from her mother. She also made the best homemade cocoa fudge and popcorn balls. She was the most amazing mother; the most wonderful wife, and sister. She was the awesome grandma who the grandkids loved to visit. She was everything to so many and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to love and be loved by her.
People around Dixon may remember Betty being the friendly grocery clerk from their neighborhood store as she worked at Super Valu/Bill's IGA/Food Basket and then at Dixon Food Market for a total 30+ years. Prior to that she provided baby-sitting services from her home.
Betty loved peanut butter and a good carnival corn dog. She was an avid crossword puzzler, often found at the kitchen table solving puzzles with Marlin, and an expert Quiddler player, with visits from her kids and/or grandkids regularly including a game or two.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until time of Funeral Service at 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at New Life Lutheran Church, LCMC, in Sterling, with Pastor Drew Williams, officiating. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Nelson Cemetery, in Nelson, at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded.
