Betty Ann Johnson, 83, of Clarkton, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. She was born on September 18, 1940 to the late M. D. Johnson and Annie White Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: William “Billy” Johnson, Bobby Johnson; sister-in-law, Jean Johnson; nephews: Ted Johnson, Bill Johnson, William Johnson, Jr. and great-nephew, Jeremy Cain.
Betty leaves behind her sister-in-law, Barbara Johnson; nephew, Dee Johnson; nieces: Beth Fellner (John), Crystal Storms (Brian); great-nieces: Brittany Simmons, Stacey Todd (Jack), Megan Morin (Randy), Britney Walkowiak (Michael); great, great-nieces: Mercedes Todd, Hayleigh Simmons; great, great-nephews: Mason Morin and Hunter Simmons.
Betty loved her family, singing in the choir and holding the role as a Sunday School teacher at Clarkton Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a teacher with the Camp Lejeune School System for 37 years, and later moved on to Hallsboro for an additional 2 years. With a caring heart, she would always give back to her students no matter the cost. After her decline, she took her teaching skills into the nursing home where she also taught Sunday School. Betty’s love for teaching the young or old never grew tiresome and her compassionate spirit will forever be remembered.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:45pm on Monday, August 12th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown followed by a funeral service at 2pm. The Reverend Barrett Ingram will officiate service. Burial will conclude services in the Clarkton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bladen County Animal Shelter 506 Smith Circle Elizabethtown, NC 28337 or to the Bladen County Special Olympics.
The family would like to thank the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the Green Brier Nursing Home for all their love and care.
