Betty was born October 16, 1929, in Iola, Kansas and the daughter of K.H. and Bernita (Willis) Lalman. She graduated from Blue Mound High School, then attended Central Business College and worked in her father’s business before she was married to Don Kastl on August 12, 1948. Together they had one daughter, Donna.

Family, friends, and faith were the most important things to Betty. She was an active member of the community including the Washington Presbyterian Church, where she was the first woman elder, and was secretary of Presbyterian Women. She was on the Cloud Housing Board for 22 years and served on the District 222 Endowment Board, along with the Washington City Library Board.  Betty was a chaplain in Eastern Star for several years and was secretary, chaplain, and girls’ State Chairman in the Geo W. Hood Post 91 Legion Auxiliary.

Betty established Kastl Insurance, which she co-owned with her husband, and was a Kansas Insurance agent for 30 years. She found joy in reading books, embroidering, and spending quality time with friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was dearly loved by all of her family and friends and will be greatly missed!

Survivors include her daughter, Donna; two brothers Jarry Lalman and wife Mary, and Bill Lalman and wife Glenda; nieces and nephews; her grandchildren: Thad Powell, Amanda Powell, and Taylor Miller; great-granddaughters Peyton Powell and Taytum Miller, and great-grandson Kalen Miller.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Don Kastl (April 1, 1995), brother Kenneth Lalman, sisters, Eloyse Stewart, Mardell Durnal, and Shirley Foster; and her parents.
