Betty Bussey Kingrey, whose love for life was as neatly stacked as the sticks beneath her pecan trees, took her final curtain call on March 10, 2025, in Roxboro, NC. Born in Rocky Mount, VA, on October 15, 1929, Betty was the youngest of seven children born to Charles Amos Bussey and Julia Lee Peters.
On a St. Patrick's Day kissed by fortune in 1951, Betty joined hands and exchanged vows with Elbyrne "Jim" Grady Kingrey in a quaint ceremony in Denver Colorado. Betty loved the beach and traveling. Betty's legacy is carried on by her two sons, Joseph Peter Kingrey (Kim) of Swansboro, NC, and Jerry Michael Kingrey (Gail) of Chesterfield, VA, Grandchildren, John Kingrey of Austin, Texas and Alison Kingrey of Stem, NC along with eight Great Grandchildren she loved dearly.
So here's to Betty, the stick-collecting, John Deere driving, squirrel chasing, peach cobbler baking matriarch of our time. May the memories of her continue to bring smiles to our faces, laughter and warmth to our hearts.
