EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Betty Jean Young Leger announces her passing on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Eunice Manor Nursing Home at the age of 92. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Eunice on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Pastor Andrew Bates officiating.
Betty was born in Eunice on September 5, 1931, to Willie and Rita Smith Young, who preceded her in death. She was an antique dealer and had a love for hummingbirds. She owned Country Cabin Antiques in Eunice and was a personal friend of Clementine Hunter and specialized in her paintings. “Above all, she loved God and had the joy of the Lord in her heart.” She will be missed dearly by her children, Michael Ward Leger and wife, Karleen of Dallas, TX, Ricky Leger and wife, Brenda of Eunice, Jean Andrus and husband, Barney of Eunice, Cynthia DeRouen and husband, Rene’ of Dallas, TX, and Danny Leger and wife, Sharlene of Eunice; grandchildren, Eric Leger and Amy Leger Martin, Kimberly Deville, Donnie Leger, Ricky Leger, Jr., Buffy Sonnier, and Coby Leger, Jeremy Frey, Brett Frey, and Maggie Gaspard, Cameron DeRouen, and Stuart DeRouen, Broch Leger, Lauren Rich, Allie Leger, and Brandon Leger; great grandchildren, Sam, Brittney, Luke, Hinsley, and Harper Leger, Ellie, Jack, and Annie Martin, Titus, Paisley, and Iley, Madison, Allie, and Judd, Jesse, Jasmine, Keith, Hailey, and McKenzie, Lindsey and Suzy Sonnier, Sara, Jolie, and Levi Frey, Douglas, Lizzy, and Anna Jane Frey, Gracie, Jax, and Millie-Kate Gaspard, Perry, Barrett, and Chloe’ DeRouen, Briley, Harper, and Ella Jo Leger, Beckett and Etley Rich; great-great grandchildren, Ophelia, Guinevere, Annalise, Kyson, and Kylie; as well as extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Goldman Leger; siblings, Horace Young, Ira Young, Rose Seidel, Willard Young, Joyce Smith, Rogers Young, and L.B. Young; and son-in-law, Douglas Frey.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will resume at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 9:00 am until time of services.
