Betty Levy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sutton-Sutton & Woodard's Mortuary, Inc. on Dec. 5, 2025.
Betty Ann Levy, née Brown, was a warm, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and
great grandmother. Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 1 st, 2025.
She was born in Eunice, Louisiana to Katherine Kingston and Alfred Brown, Sr. Betty often
spoke of her childhood as loving and she was extremely close to her maternal grandmother
Celeste 'Mumsy' Washington. Mumsy provided a core of stability for Betty. She developed a
deep faith and spirituality in childhood. She and Mumsy attended Greater True Light Baptist
Church in Eunice where she accepted Christ early in her life. During her teenage years, she
enjoyed teaching Sunday school.
Betty attended Southern University where she studied Business Education and was a member
of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She met Louis (Lou) Levy at Southern and married him in
1957. Within a year of marriage, Betty and Lou moved to Heilbronn, Germany. They moved
often because Lou was in the military and they eventually settled in San Antonio, Tx. Together
they raised four children. Betty and Lou were happily married for 68 years until her death.
Betty had a remarkable life. Though living and traveling throughout the world, she never forgot
her roots in Eunice. She had a generous and caring spirit. She was gregarious, inspirational,
motivating, and loved being around her friends and family. She particularly enjoyed a circle of
friends call "The Pokeno Ladies." The Pokeno Ladies loved to travel together, laugh, and enjoy
life.
Her faith was a constant throughout her life. She was an active member of Second Baptist
Church in San Antonio. At Second Baptist she was a member and chairperson of the Matron's
Guild; member of the Women's Missionary Union; faithful Sunday school and Bible study
participant; volunteer at the Community Center; and served in the Minister, Deacon, and
Trustee's auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her husband, Dr. Louis B. Levy, Sr.; her children, Col. Anthony V. Levy, USAF
Ret. (Candance); Louis B. Levy, Jr. (Elizabeth McDowell), Dr. Angela D. Levy (Asa Chamberlayne)
and, David M. Levy (Izumi); nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her younger siblings,
Barbara Guillory and Michael Victorian, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was
preceded in death by her siblings, Delores Owens, Gloria Batiste, Alfred Brown, Jr., and Alma
Brown.
