Betty Lukkarinen, 97, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, November 25, 2025 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Betty was born December 31, 1927 in Ishpeming to Rudolph and Nellie (Blight) Gustafson and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1945. She then attended cosmetology school in Marquette prior to owning Betty's Beauty Salon in Negaunee for several years.
Betty married Ray Lukkarinen on December 14th, 1946. They had three children, Nancy (Dan) Peterson of Superior, WI, Barbara (Ron) Ball of Gladstone and David (Fran) Lukkarinen of Gwinn. She has seven grandchildren: Terry (Jim) Boland, Tammy (Rob) Wright, Mark (Diane) Peterson, Brent (Denise) Peterson, Danna Peterson, Michael Lukkarinen and Raymond Lukkarinen; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Ray Lukkarinen; two sisters: Gertrude and Merle; and three brothers: Robert, William and Donald.
Mrs. Lukkarinen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee, Wawonowin Country Club, Campfire Girls Council, Negaunee Women's Choral Club, Snowbelt Bowling Association and the Negaunee Women's Horseshoe League. She served on the Negaunee Housing Commission, and was the Hospice Volunteer of the Year in 1997 for the State of Michigan.
Betty enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Little Shag Lake until she and Ray joined Wawonowin Country Club, and also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care provided by Eastwood Nursing Center and the representatives of UP Home Health and Hospice, especially that provided by Elyssa and Cheryl.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Betty's family kindly ask that any memorial considerations be directed to UP Home Health and Hospice.
