Betty Jane (Settle) Lynn McKenzie, 89, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Cumberland Country House. She had been a resident of the Cumberland Country House since April 2017.
Born on January 24, 1936, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Gertrude (Jolley) Settle. Betty was the last surviving member of the Robert and Gertrude Settle family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters. Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, William Bruce Lynn, father of her three children in 1968; and her second husband, Galen G. McKenzie in 2022.
Raised in the south end of Cumberland, Betty was a 1954 graduate of Fort Hill High School. Following high school she worked as a mail girl at the former Celanese Corporation. Betty was a homemaker but after her five children were raised she worked at Lillian Jacobs' flower shop in the Country Club Mall. Betty was a member of the Bel Air Garden Club for several years and was active in a Bible Study group in Bel Air. Betty was a member of the Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church in Cumberland and also attended Calvary Baptist Church in Cresaptown.
Betty is survived by daughters, Kimberly (Lynn) Gabaldoni, husband Dr. Louis of Clarks Summit, PA; Kelly (McKenzie) Growden, husband Mark of Lake Gordon Road, Bedford, PA; Lynn (McKenzie) Guerra, husband Donald of West Mifflin, PA; Jennifer Lynn, husband Jeff Helmstetter of Owings Mills, MD and son, Wm. Michael (Mick) Lynn of Ellicott City, MD. In addition, she is survived by grandsons, Andrew Leese and Jared Leese, wife Brittany; and granddaughter, Tiffany Lynn Gould, husband Tom. She is also survived by step grandson, David Growden, wife Lauren. She is survived by great-grandsons, Emory, Camden, and Issac. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating.
Inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Cumberland.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of The Country House, the memory care facility that was her home for the past eight years. The staff treated her like family and exhibited great care and compassion throughout her stay. Her children will be forever grateful.
