On Saturday, October 23, 2021 at about 2:00 a.m., Betty Lou Madison (Watkins), 81, entered into eternal, peaceful rest with her Savior.
Betty was born on May 19, 1940 to Amos and Mae Watkins in Mountainburg, Arkansas. She married Orville Madison on April 14, 1959, with whom she spent 46 loving years before his passing in 2005. They had two sons, Orville Jr. and Gregory, and two daughters, Angela and Tina. Betty and Orville moved to Iowa briefly, but found their way back to Fort Smith where they planted their roots. Their love grew over the years, as did their family.
Betty worked at David's Pie Shop in Fort Smith, as well as Von Hatten's Bakery for many years. Betty retired from Sparks Hospital in 2009 where she was a housekeeper for 13 years. She had more friends than one could possibly count, whom she spoke of often and deeply cherished. Betty attended church at Faith Baptist Church in Fort Smith for many years and loved her church family.
If you knew Betty, you knew love. She never met a stranger. She spent her life helping and caring for those she loved, which was pretty much every person she ever met. You could always find Betty taking over the room with stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often reminisced about her younger days to anyone who would listen. Betty was full of sass and never backed down from standing her ground. She stood up for what she believed without fear of those against her. From silly old songs she sang to her grandchildren to sharing the cherished sayings her parents passed down to her, Betty always had wisdom and knowledge to share. Betty's bright light of joy and love in this world has not gone away because she is no longer physically present. That light will live on within every person she has touched. Forever.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Amos and Mae Watkins, two sisters, Melba Deaton and Laura Key, two brothers, Loren Watkins and Tommy Watkins, her husband Orville Madison, and her son Orville Madison Jr.
She is survived by her children Gregory and Amy Madison of Iola, Kansas, Angie and Danny Moore of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Tina and Patrick Wilkinson of Alma, Arkansas. Betty is also survived by her brother Donald Watkins and wife Ann of Alma, Arkansas and her brother Edward Watkins of Muskogee, Oklahoma, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
