Betty Mudget Obituary

Betty Jean Mudget, age 80, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 2nd, 2025. Betty was born March 23rd, 1945, in Carlisle, Ohio, to William and Martha Cramer. During her youth, she enjoyed roller skating and playing with the neighborhood kids, one of whom she would end up marrying. She graduated from Carlisle high school in 1963.

In 1962, Betty married her first love and childhood friend, Thomas “Eddie” Clemmons, in Ohio. Together, they raised two children: Jennifer and John. They moved first to California, before settling their family down in Plainwell, Michigan. Betty and Eddie spent 33 wonderful years together before his passing in 1995.

Betty fell in love again, marrying David Mudget in the year 2001. Dave and Betty loved adventure, finding joy in refurbishing the houses they lived in and meticulously arranging their flower beds. They enjoyed 16 years together, loving on their two basset hounds, Cleo and Daisy, and many other dogs, before Dave’s passing in 2017.

Betty was a lifelong dog lover, always having a companion at her side, whether it be a Chihuahua or a Norwegian Elkhound. She never liked to stay in one place and was always filled with a zest for life. Betty enjoyed wrestling matches, lightsaber duels, and slip’n’slides with her grandkids, who called her “Grandma Boop.” She was the life of the party, a passionate cook, and always had the best-looking garden on the street. She loved Lake Michigan and spent many summers visiting South Haven to spend time on the beach.

Betty is survived by her two children: Jennifer Gradwell (Michael) of Plainwell, MI; John Clemmons (Gina) of Evergreen, CO; her brother and sister: Bill and Janie; her six grandchildren: Meighan, Kyle, Tori, Thomas, Lyra, and Axel and her two great-grandchildren: Ellerie and Junie. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Dave Mudget; her first husband, Thomas “Eddie” Clemmons; and her parents William and Martha Cramer.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of a memorial service, Betty’s close family will be having a private gathering in South Haven to spread her ashes in a place she loved. Contributions in memory of Betty can be made to your local food bank, or Toys for Tots, where help is needed the most this time of year. She was also notably grateful to the Animal Rescue Project, from where she adopted her last dog, Daisy.

The family is being assisted by the Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes and Cremation Society, 120 S. Woodhams St. Plainwell, MI 49080 (269-685-5881).
