Betty Murley Obituary

Lometa,TX - Betty Louella Durham Murley was born July 6, 1935 in O'Donnell, Texas. She was the second oldest of eight children born to Homer and Farris Durham. She graduated from O'Donnell High School in 1942. During high school she worked for Mr. Phillips at his café where she met her future husband, George Lewis Murley. The café doubled as a boarding house where George lived at the time.

George Lewis Murley, a veteran of the Korean war, and Betty married at the Nazarene Church in O'Donnell on July 15, 1955. The ceremony was officiated by Jack Pischel who also married Kathy and Glen Walton in 1991. They settled in Odessa, spending many years water skiing with friends and family. George and Betty's daughter Kathy was born on June 11, 1962, in Odessa. At the age of two years old, George and Betty bought Kathy her first horse, Prissy. They were extremely supportive and involved in Kathy's 4-H activities such as horse shows and the drill team, supporting her in all her endeavors.

Reading from Betty's own handwriting, "I accepted Christ as a child in the Nazarene Church in O'Donnell, Texas. As a young adult I made a profession of faith in the Faith Nazarene Church in Odessa, Texas". She later placed membership at Sherwood Baptist Church.

In 1967, Betty began working for the Department of Human Services. She furthered her education, graduating from UTPB in Odessa in 1983. She held various roles, but spent a large part of her career as a social worker, retiring in 1996. She loved to travel, read, crochet, and spend time with family and friends. She frequently came to the ranch to stay with Glen and Kathy in Lometa. Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband George on February 3,1994; sisters, Pat Eaves, Maxine Paris, and Frances Durham. Others preceded in death are her brothers, Jeral Durham and Sherman Durham; one nephew, Danny Paris; and two nieces, Vicki Eaves, and Amy Durham.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Murley Walton and husband Glen; brothers, David Kenneth Durham and Larry Durham; along with numerous nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday, November 22,2025, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Tahoka with funeral services beginning at 2:00PM. Interment will follow at Nevels Memorial Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Solaris Hospice at 1006 6th Street, Goldthwaite, TX 76844.
