Betty Jane Oates, 83, of Morristown, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, at her home. She was a devoted Pentecostal who loved the Lord with all her heart. Known for her humor and a touch of stubbornness, she filled the room with laughter and life. She cherished the times spent playing board and card games with her grandchildren and treasured every moment with her family. A passionate WWE wrestling fan, she could be loud when she cheered with enthusiasm. She also had a deep love for animals and all of God's creatures that reflected her kind and compassionate spirit in everything she did.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Robert Oates; parents, Shirley Carson and Dolly Larrison Hopkins; and son, John Giddings.
She is survived by her children, Donna M. Seal, Shirley J. (Joe) Ward, James R. Grant, and Robert D. Oates; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a thank you to special friend, Carolyn Witt; caregivers, Crystal and Kasie; son, James; the nurses and staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice; and primary care Dr. Rajeev Gupta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Allen Funeral Home.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
Allen Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
