Betty Reed Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Labby Memorial Funeral Home - DeRidder on Dec. 12, 2025.
Betty Jean Farris Reed, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at the age of 86, in her hometown of DeRidder, Louisiana, where she was born on February 14, 1939. She is lovingly remembered for her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and the warmth she brought into every life she touched.

Betty was the cherished daughter of Robert Farris and Hazel Ladner Farris. She grew up in a loving home, where she developed her remarkable sense of humor and her love for cooking, a passion she would share with family and friends throughout her life. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Alvin Paul Reed, who was her partner in every adventure and joy. Also, her father, Robert Farris; her mother, Hazel Ladner Farris; her sister, Norma Faye Repp, and her husband, Bill; and her dear son-in-law, Steve Reeves.

Betty embraced life to the fullest. She was known as the life of the party, with a quick wit that could brighten any gathering. Her home was a haven for family and friends, filled with laughter, love, and delicious meals that she prepared with care. Betty adored her children-Reginald Reed and his wife, Susan of DeRidder, Durrel Reeves of DeRidder, and Mechelle Farmer and her husband, Jeff of Dry Creek. Her grandchildren, Caitlyn Reed of DeRidder, Quinton Reed of DeRidder, Hayden Farmer of Dry Creek, and Rylan and Camryn Reeves of DeRidder, were the apples of her eye; each of them hung the moon in her heart.

The bonds of love and friendship she cultivated throughout her life enriched not only her own existence but also the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Betty had a zest for life that was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She loved to travel, exploring new places and creating unforgettable memories with her loved ones. She also found joy in tending to her home, making it a welcoming place for all. Whether she was cooking a big family meal or hosting gatherings, her heart of gold shone through in every act of kindness.

Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and strength. Betty's quick wit and humorous stories will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her children and grandchildren will carry forward the values she instilled in them: the importance of family, the joy of sharing, and the beauty of living life with a light heart.

A visitation will be held at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on December 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
