Betty Ann Eckard Rexrode, 83, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
She was born on May 21, 1942, in Highland County, to the late William Roy and Barbara Catherine Smith Eckard.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A retiree of Genesco for 35 years, Betty later worked in the Staunton City school cafeteria for 10 years. She attended services at Gypsy Hill House. She loved visiting with neighbors on the front porch and going to the Dollar Tree. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Dull Spitler, who was her caregiver and best friend; Shirley’s fiancé, David Sheets; her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, including Brenlee Rose Harris, who was “the apple of her eye”; her special nieces, Robin Kehoe and Brenda Swink; and her special friends, Margaret Ralston, Judy Young, and Vickie Wiseman.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bittle Oscar Rexrode; her son, Douglas Eugene Dull Jr.; her brother, William “Buck” Roy Eckard; her sisters, Dorothy Jane Eckard Floyd, Sarah Katherine Eckard Fitzgerald, Sadie Belle Eckard Thorpe, Mary Janett Eckard; and her granddaughter, Heather Nicole Dull.
A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverends Darren Massey and Larry Strickler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginjning at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Sheets, Grayson Hall, Charlie Kehoe, Grady Swink, and Sam Strickler. Logan Hall and Kyndall Hall will act as honorary pallbearers.
