Betty Louise Mintz Scott was born on August 17, 1941 in Alamance County, NC to the late Willie Mintz and Ollie Brigman Mintz. After the death of her parents when she was five, she lived with her sisters. At the age of 14, she went to live with the late Purley Lee Nichols and Verna Nichols (Mom and Pop Nick) of Winston Salem, NC. Betty was called home on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the age of 81 years old.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Ulysses L. Scott, brothers Luther Mintz, Robert Mintz, Henry Mintz, Benjamin Mintz, and sister Carrie Mintz Graves. Betty graduated from Graham High School in Alamance County, NC. After graduating high school, she moved to Philadelphia, PA. She frequently traveled with one of her friends to Jersey City, NJ where she met and later married Ulysses "Scotty" Scott of Eastover, South Carolina. From that 46-year union came three children, Lavetta (Vetta), Marty (Mot), and Felicia (Fee).
Betty attended Jersey City State College and worked with Bell Atlantic, later becoming Verizon, for 27-years until her retirement in 2003. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with the Tinton Falls Senior Citizens, attending potluck dinners with the ladies of Primrose Place, spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved and adored, and talking on the phone with her sisters Eula, Carrie and Mary.
Betty accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She LOVED the Lord and enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing gospel music, especially on Saturdays while cleaning the house.
She is survived by her three children Dr. Lavetta (Maynard) Ross of Neptune, NJ, Marty (Danielle) Scott of San Antonio, TX, and Felicia Scott Johnson of District Heights, MD; grandchildren Samar(Aatiyah), Jeremy (Alyese), Alexis, Mariah, LeAnna, Farryn, and Frederick; three great granddaughters Jahonna, Ahyan, and Saria, and one great-great grandson Messiah; Sisters Mary Mintz Ennon, and Eula Mintz Swann; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving relatives, and friends. She also leaves behind Devin and the B-wing of Preferred Care at Wall who provided her with loving care during the last 11 months.
