Betty Y. Shorey Greenville, SC Betty Young Shorey, 86, entered into God's grace on Thursday afternoon, May 17, 2012. She was born on May 23, 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts to the late William D. and Dorothy Richter Young. Mrs. Shorey attended Furman University and Breneau College in Gainesville, GA until her marriage in 1945 when Mr. Shorey returned from Naval service in WWII. They settled in Greenville in 1950, and soon thereafter established Style-Crafters, Inc. a national manufacturer of marine safety equipment. Mrs. Shorey was not active in the business, rather was busy raising their four children. Together with neighboring couples, they were founding charter members of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer where Betty was active as a Sunday School teacher and member of the altar guild. She and her husband retired to Dataw Island, SC in 1989 where she carried on her many years as an election official, which the S.C. General Assembly and the U.S. Congress recognized in 2002 awarding Betty certificates of merit for over 50 continuous years of public service. She was a volunteer at Hunting Island State Park in the save the turtle program. She was a communicant of St. Helena's historic Episcopal Church in Beaufort, SC. She and her husband returned to Greenville in 2008 to be close to their children and to take up residence at The Woodlands at Furman where she remained active in that community activities and events at Furman. She was a communicant of All Saints Anglican Church where she served as a Lector. She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 67 years, Gregory D. (Greg) Shorey of the home; her children, Pamela S. Jahns and her husband Rick, and Gregory Day Shorey, III both of Greer, Cynthia S. White and her husband Steve of N. Augusta, SC, and Amy S. Grace of Greenville; her beloved grandchildren, Jeffery and Michael White, Taylor Shorey, and Leia Jahns Webb and her husband Richard; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Shockley and McKenley Webb. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Y. Martin and Nancy Y. Worrill. A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, May 21, 2012 at 2:00pm at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer with Vicar Charles Calberg, of All Saints Anglican Church as celebrant. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O.Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000, or to All Saint's Anglican Church, 6 Spring Valley Road, Greenville, SC 29615. Greg,

I just wanted you to know that Jacque and I were saddened to hear of Betty's passing. She was a beautiful and kind women that was always gracious when we talked with her. We will be thinking of you and your family in the days ahead.
