Betty Davis Smith, 90, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 24, 2025. Born June 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Irene Jackson Davis and Jones Ashley Davis. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her stepmother, Ethel Rowe Davis; husband, Sam Bennett Smith; son-in-law, Danny Lynn Williams; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Barefoot Smith; sister, Louise Poole; and stepbrothers, Billy (Bobbie) and Gerald Rowe.

Betty moved to Johnston County with her family when she was thirteen. She attended Smithfield High School and later graduated from Wayne Community College. Betty married her husband, Sam, in 1951 and had two children, Sammy and Linda. She was a talented seamstress and retired from Patsy Aiken Design in Pine Level in 1998. Betty was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Smithfield, where she served on the Altar Guild. She also enjoyed volunteering at The Neuse Little Theatre. Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be missed dearly.

Betty is survived by her son, Sammy Smith; daughter, Linda Williams; stepsister, Nancy Strickland; grandchildren, Samantha (Kevin) and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Hayley; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Re: Betty Smith Memorial 218 S. Second Street Smithfield, NC 27577.
