Betty M. Sutton

Betty Joyce Martin Sutton, 84, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Saturday, August 26, 2023 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 4PM, Tuesday, August, 29, 2023, at Big Creek Baptist Church, in Irwin County, with the Rev. Ray Mixon and the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6PM until 8PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Sutton was born February 18, 1939, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Randolph and Estelle Hart Martin. She was a 1957 graduate of Irwin County High School. Upon graduation, she began her long-time telephone company career at Southern Bell in Jacksonville, Fla., and then General Telephone Company in Fitzgerald, Ga., which went on to become Alltel. After retiring from Alltel, she went on to work at other places such as the Uh-Oh Outlet in Fitzgerald, A.S. Harris Department Store in Ocilla, and Ben Hill County E-911, as a dispatcher. She was a faithful member of Big Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed walking and exercising, especially Zumba. She loved spending time with and caring for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Martin T. (Mark) Sutton and wife Sonya; and her daughter, Debra S. Martin and husband Mike; all of Irwin County; grandchildren: Michael Martin, Austin Sutton and wife Emily, Katelyn Sutton and Jace Elrod; great-granddaughter: Mary Reece Sutton, and her sister-in law, Vivian M. Hancock, all of Irwin County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley T. Sutton; a daughter, Teresa S. Elrod; a brother, Jimmy L. Martin, all of Irwin County; and a sister, Frances M. Abbott of Albany, Georgia.
