Betty died Monday morning, October 27, 2025, at Gaines Park Memory Care facility in Kennesaw.
She was born May 26, 1934, to Martha and Eugene Anderson. She graduated from Spalding High School in
Griffin, Georgia and later also received a diploma from Mercer University Extension for Christian Education. Betty married Gene Singleton in 1952, and she and Gene were long time members of Green Acres Baptist Church in Smyrna, Georgia, where she taught Sunday School for many decades.
As Betty began to venture out from Sunny Side, she worked as secretary for an eye doctor in Griffin, for Sears in Atlanta, and later in life operated a day care out of her home for several families to whom she and Gene became very close. She also kept the books for Singleton Construction throughout the years.
Betty loved to cook, garden both flowers and vegetables, travel, camp, and study the Bible. Throughout her life she searched for ways to help others, including her 7 siblings and their families. She had a dry wit and loved to talk, laugh, visit, and share their blessings with others. When she and Gene lived a short time in Atlanta, they tried to grow a small garden in the backyard in the grass. She later admitted defeat to the 'Bermuda bed'. Then God blessed them with 5 acres in Smyrna and wow did they garden!
Betty was preceded in death by her husbands Gene Singleton and Curtis Tomlin, along with her parents and siblings. Surviving Betty are daughter Wanda Hughes (Rick) and son David Singleton. Also, two grandchildren from Rick and Wanda, Karen Hughes Brannen (Robert), Allen Hughes (Mandi), and two grandchildren from David and Kathie Singleton, Scott Singleton (Lucia) and Sarah Singleton.
