Merced, California - Betty G. Torres of Merced, California, left this earth on May 20, 2021, at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Torres Sr., parents Albert and Grace Gallegos, brother Albert Gallegos Jr., and sister-in-law Katherine Gallegos.
Betty was born on October 15, 1951 in Merced. After graduating from Merced High School in 1969, Betty went to work for the County of Merced Probation Department. There, she met the man who would become her husband of 42 years, Ruben. After some time, Betty went on to become a supervisor with Merced County Family Support. Upon retiring from the county, she found a passion working with children. This led her to St. Luke's preschool. There, she found joy in working with a great group of teachers and the children she adored.
Anyone who knew Betty, knew kindness and love. She was ready and willing to help anyone at a moment's notice. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered. She loved to laugh and savored every moment that life offered. Betty enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, shopping, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and just sitting back watching the kids in the family grow up.
Betty is survived by her four children, Kristie (Rigo Marquez), Ruben Jr. (Christina Morris), Michael Sr. (Melissa), and Steven (Jennifer Mendoza); her sister, Martha (Ruben Gonzales), brother Richard, sister-in-law Marion, sister-in-law Margaret; eleven grandchildren, Jason (Erikka), Anthony, Marisa (Benjamin Gutierrez), Gabriel (Kelsea), Michael Jr. (Ashlynn Chatham), Adrienne, Isabel (Raul Verduzco), Makayla, Madyson, Alayah, and Nia; two great-grandchildren, Kalliope and Colsen; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends who have become family over the years.
The viewing will take place on June 1, 2021 at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel from 2pm to 6pm. The rosary and funeral mass will occur on June 2, 2021 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced on Yosemite Avenue at 10:00am. Burial will be private, as Betty will be laid to rest with her husband Ruben, at the Merced Cemetery District. The family respectfully asks that CoVid-19 protocols are followed and masks are worn.
It is requested that all flowers and cards are sent to the Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Atwater, California.
