   Betty J. Wagner, 100, of Carmi passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at her residence in Carmi. She was born on December 21, 1924, the daughter of Dolph and Clara Bell (McCarthy) Beasley. Betty married Mendell E. “Wag” Wagner on May 30, 1965, and they shared over 17 years of marriage together until his passing on February 23, 1982. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carmi. She also loved to cook, bake, spend time with her family, enjoyed traveling, and witnessed her faith. Betty owned and operated alongside her husband Mendell, Wag’s Market in East Carmi.

   Betty is survived by her children, Sue Thompson of Vincennes, IN, John (Debbie) Williams of Carmi, IL, James (Andrea) Williams of Carmi, IL, and Nancy Aud of Carmi, IL; twelve grandchildren, Jeff Thompson, Kim Carpenter, Rob Thompson, Shawn Slay, Angie Bolin, John Williams II, Lisa Williams, Andy Williams, Jamie Williams, Jeremy Williams, Dusty Aud, and Denton Aud; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special caregivers from the past six years, Gail Thayer, Holly Simpson, Loretta Buttry, Gina Melton, Earla Strean, and Debbie Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, the father of her children John W. Williams, daughter Sandy Slay, two sons-in-law Dannie Aud and Philip Thompson, daughter-in-law Diann Williams, a grandson Anthony Slay, and siblings John Parks, Jess Beasley, Dick Beasley, Warren Beasley, Chet Beasley, Mary Smart, Dorothy Faust, Louise Tandy, Rachel Coffman, Cloris Matthews, and Martha Hollis.

   Funeral Services for Betty J. Wagner, 100, of Carmi will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will follow at Newman Cemetery in Carmi, IL. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Shriners Hospital or Charles Ford Hospice, envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821.
