Miss Betty Jane Wherry of Charlotte, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born December 22, 1947, in McCrory, the daughter of Paul Daniel and Pauline (Griffin) Wherry.

Miss Wherry graduated from McCrory High School and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Teaching from Arkansas State University. Miss Betty valued her education and became a 2nd grade teacher at McCrory Elementary until her retirement. She was a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club where she served as the McCrory chapter president from 1988-1990 and received the Woman of the Year Award in 1994. She was also voted McCrory Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1994 and Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996. Upon her retirement Miss Betty moved to Charlotte, Arkansas to be closer to family. While there she became a long-time member of the Charlotte Church of Christ.

She especially cherished her role of Aunt Betty to her nieces, great nieces and nephews, and many other extended friends and family. Aunt Betty enjoyed playing Bunko, traveling, and spending time with her dear friends. She was family famous for her cornbread dressing, loved her cat, Mr. Wilson, and wore the best earrings.

Miss Wherry is preceded in death by her brother, Don, and sister-in-law, Deanna; and her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Billy Wherry, and wife, Carol, of Fair Grove, Missouri; her nieces, Donna Voight and husband, Scot, of Yellville, Danae Scott and husband, Jay, of Rogers, Holly Wherry of Branson, Missouri, and Amanda Wherry, of Fayetteville; and her great nieces and nephews, Kambri Voight, Easton Voight, Ryken Voight, Mason Scott, Kara Scott, and Leah Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Charlotte Church of Christ, with Mr. Chuck Crow officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Scot Voight, Jay Scott, Mason Scott, Easton Voight, Ryken Voight, and Jeff Reeves. Honorary pallbearers are Jerrel Lillard, James Reeves, and Charles Reeves.
