A native of Madisonville, Betty was born on April 23, 1935, the daughter of Hallie Mae Walls Duncan and Roy Leaman Duncan. She was married to John Thomas ("J. T.") Workman for 60 years and together they moved to Hopkinsville and established Workman's Auto Glass & Upholstery in 1961 where Betty served as the long-time bookkeeper for the business.
Betty was a member of First Baptist Church since moving to Hopkinsville, where she loved teaching children's Sunday School and leading GA's for many years. She was a long-time member of Fannie Louise Maddux's Sunday School Class. Betty was a member of the Jolly Canton Homemakers Club, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a teacher's aide at Belmont Elementary School.
Mom~Mimi was a genuinely kind and gentle soul, who loved her family and friends fiercely. Her warmth and calming presence was a blessing to everyone that knew her. Mimi enjoyed her grandchildren beyond measure, doing all she could to pick them up from school, bake cookies or make her special sherbet punch; she picked up paint balls or other supplies for them in their various life stages. She and J.T. took them on many trips to Gatlinburg or Florida and attended every single ballgame or other event possible to support their children and grandchildren. As her eldest grandson said, "Mimi embodies the biblical definition of love."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas "J.T." Workman; her brothers: R.L. Duncan and C.W. Duncan; and her sister: Bonnie Duncan Harris.
Survivors include: Her children, Mike Workman (Jill), Tim Workman (Kelley) and Beth Workman McCraw (Jamie); five grandchildren: Matthew Thomas Workman, Tyler Casey Workman (Whitney), Cayce Spencer Workman (Yesenia), Charles Preston Workman and Carlee Michala Workman; and four great grandchildren: Ellie Lynn Workman, Parker Thomas Workman, Shepherd Roe Workman, and Elias Nicolas Valadez Workman.
A special thank you from the family to Sheila Barnes and Rolanda Whitlock for their extra special care and attention for our Mother during the last, very hard days of her life.
