Bettye Jo Stanley

Bettye Jo Stanley, 94, of Levelland passed from this life on April 25,2025. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30,2025 at Krestridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place at Krestridge Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1,2025 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.

Bettye Jo Eskew Stanley was born February 10, 1931, in Wesson, Arkansas to Ike and Lettie Eskew. She was only 3 years old and the youngest of six children when her family moved to Hockley County. It took 5 days to make the trip loaded with everything they owned including syrup buckets and canned goods. Bettye often spoke of remembering riding in the Model T truck on a syrup bucket and camping behind billboards as they made the trip. They made their home on Whiteface Farms and quickly became a part of the growing community of Pettit. Her parents taught her to work hard as they set the example. She graduated in 1948 as President of her class and member of the Pep Squad. Bettye married the love of her life J. R. Stanley on June 19, 1948. They were married 75 years until the death of J. R. in 2023. She and J. R. built a life working hard together all along the way. She was always there to give support, doing whatever was necessary to help, from tromping cotton in the cotton trailers behind the cotton strippers, hauling the trailers to the cotton gin, hoeing the fields, and working wherever was needed. She was a supporter of her community as she worked to help put together the history book From the Heart of Hockley County Recollections published in 1986. She helped J. R. with his campaign for Commissioner of Precinct 3 for 20 years. She worked as a beauty operator, phone operator and for Furr’s supermarket for 30 years.

Bettye passed from her life here on earth April 25, 2025, entering her eternal home welcomed by Jesus and her loved ones who preceded her, along with her husband, J. R.; parents, Ike and Lettie Eskew; brothers, Owen and Leonard; sisters, Floye Fred, Margaret Kitchens, and Glindeene Bailey; grandson, Matt Stanley and granddaughter Mindy Stanley. Survivors include her daughter Jackie (Edward) Shugart; son, Len Stanley; grandchildren, Kim (Stacy) Springfield, Aaron Shugart (Jeremy), Rhonda (Austin) Agnew, Misty (Nathan) Brummett, Macey (Aaron) Bracken, and 16 great grandchildren.
