Beverly June "Heard" Bird

Sumter, SC…. Beverly June Heard Bird, age 81, beloved wife of 60 years to Wayne Bird, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home.

Beverly was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Carl DeWitt Heard and the late Reba Wallace Heard. Beverly had a deep love for God and for her church. She was a devoted member of Orchard Community Church, formerly Wise Drive Baptist, and even when she couldn't attend Sunday school, she faithfully studied at home. In her quiet moments, Beverly found joy in quilting, sewing, and reading. She was a regular at the library and spent many happy hours exploring her family's genealogy. She cherished the outdoors and often took her children camping when they were young. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing, embracing every chance to be outside. Above all, Beverly loved spending time with her family. She treasured time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was the greatest joy of her life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband Wayne Bird, left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Suzanne Carol Jones, and her husband Chad Pickard of Goldsboro, NC, her son; Gary Allan Bird, and his wife Rica Ranuu Bird of Sumter, SC, her sister, Sandra Kelso of Austin, Texas, her grandchildren; Brandon Trey Nelson, Kayla Lauren Bird, Brooke Ariana Perry, Gabriel Maximus Bird, and her great-grandchildren, Sawyer Perry, Paisley Perry, Camden Nelson, Levi Perry, and Rosalee Perry.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Heard.

A funeral service will be held at Bullock Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 5:00 pm.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Bullock Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4:00-5:00 pm.

A graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow.
