Beverly Carlson Daniel, 77, died at her home in Moon, Virginia, a community of Mathews County, on December 26, 2025. Rapidly progressing cancer took her life just after sunrise on the day after Christmas. She passed peacefully with her husband, Jerry, and son, Mike at her side, and Mike’s daughter, Aileigh, close by.
Bev was a native of Jamestown, NY, where she lived until she was married in 1968 to Jerry, who was then on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Their first move was to Raleigh, NC, where their two sons were born. Afterward, they lived in Virginia Beach, VA, Newport, RI, Annapolis, MD, and Valrico, FL over the course of 20 years. Imagine moving to an unfamiliar home surrounded by people you don’t know in a town you have never seen. You are soon on your own with two small children when your husband sails away on a U.S. Navy warship for 6 months or more in the days before cell phones or the internet. That’s part of what being a Navy Wife is like; Bev was a great one. After Valrico, Jerry’s new job required a move to Greensboro, NC, where the family lived for 15 years before the kids left the nest and Bev and Jerry settled in Mathews County, VA.
Bev was pre-deceased by her older brother, Rodney Carlson, a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy; her father, Fredrick S. Carlson, a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, and her mother, June Eggleston Carlson, who lived past the age of 100 until August 14th. of this year.
Bev is survived by her husband of 57 years Gerald L. Daniel of Mathews; son Michael F. Daniel of Mathews; son Brian W. Daniel (Donna) of Norfolk; three grand-daughters, Aileigh Elizabeth Daniel of East Orange, NJ; Jessica Lynn Daniel of Waynesboro, VA; Victoria Steele Bowman (Nathan) and great-grandson, Matthew Bowman of North Wilkesboro, NC; brother, Douglas J. Carlson (Linda) of Port Orange, FL; sister-in-law, Helen “Susie” Carlson of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bev opted for cremation, which is being handled by the Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster Faulkner Chapel, Mathews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. As she requested, Bev will rest in peace with her parents and her brother, Rod at the Florida National Cemetery in Sumter County, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the volunteer fire department or rescue squad in your area or to a reputable charitable organization.
