Beverly "Kay" Bishop, of Palm City, Fl passed away peacefully at 82 years young. She was beautiful, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Kay was born in Chicago, Illinois to Clarence and Ursula "Alice" Thompson, 1 of 6 children. Kay was raised in Markham, Illinois. She graduated high school, then worked in graphic design in her early years in Chicago area. Kay was a true artist and loved painting and art with no formal education in that field.
She married at 19, to Clarence Lyke and the two started their family with the addition of 4 children, Marty, Jeff, Pam, and Karen. Life took Kay and Clarence down different roads and they eventually separated. She found love again in Crete, Illinois While she worked as a waitress, she met a handsome policeman named John "Jack" W. Bishop. They married on December 10, 1966, and raised a blended family of 6 kids together.
Kay and Jack moved to Florida in 1978. They were the owners and operators of Smilin Jacks Marina in Jupiter building it into a successful business. As the business thrived Kay soaked in the many scenic and beautiful days on the water in Jupiter and often used those images as her muse for her paintings. Kay was an excellent artist and teacher becoming a renowned local artist. Anyone who remembers the painting "Jupiter Moon" knows there is a funny story behind it. Kay opened her own studio and gallery in 1987 where she taught and painted.
Upon retirement Kay and Jack headed up to Georgia to enjoy the quiet, laid-back lifestyle of southern farm life. After Jack passed away in 2010, Kay moved to Palm City in 2018 to be closer to her family.
Kay was predeceased by: her husband: John "Jack" W. Bishop, her son: Jefferey and daughter Pamela; 3 siblings: Chuckie, Pete, and Lillian; and her parents Clarence and Ursula
She is survived by: her children: Karen Luther and her husband, Donald, of Palm City, FL; Marty and his wife, Tommie, of Rio, FL; John and his wife, Shawn, of Ashburn, GA, and Janet Radford, of Cordele, GA; siblings: Nancy Dell'Aringa and her husband, Dan, of Chicago, IL
Cathy Oberg and her husband, Paul, of St. Lucie, FL; Richard Thompson and his wife, Cindy; Numerous Grandchildren and many Great grandchildren
A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday, Friday, October 15, 2021, at 12 pm, All County Funeral Home & Crematory, 1010 NW Federal Hwy, Stuart, FL. Reception will be held Café Martier, 23 Osceola St., Stuart, FL from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
For those who wish, memorial donations can be made in her name to your local Humane Society or animal rescue.
