Beverly (Shockey) McElroy, 86, a long-time resident of Moriarty, NM passed away on June 18, 2024, at her home in Albuquerque, NM. Beverly was born on April 28, 1938, in Albuquerque, NM to Everett T. Shockey and Golda Galbraith. She was raised in Stanley, NM, by her father and her bonus Mom, Euline Shockey. She grew up near King’s Ranch alongside Governor Bruce King, and his brothers Don and Sam King. She graduated from Stanley High School when she was 16 years old. She went on that fall to ENMU then transferred to Draughan’s Business College in Albuquerque. She married the love of her life Donald N. McElroy, a New Mexico State Police Officer, on August 15, 1958, in Moriarty, NM. They met through her brother Ken Shockey who was also a State Police Officer at an outing at the NM State Fair. Beverly was an avid genealogist and loved her birds and animals. She enjoyed true crime magazines and listening to police scanners. She loved being a State Police Officer’s wife. She was a homemaker, a school bus driver for Butler School Bus Company and Davis School Bus Company with the Moriarty School District for many years. Beverly is survived by one son, Clarence McElroy and wife Sylvia, 3 daughters LaDonna Plew, Denise and husband Mark Staab, and Kelley Vejar all of New Mexico. One sister, Betty Brown, and one sister-in-law Ouita Shockey also survive her. She has 10 grandchildren, Shane, Cheyenne, Garrett, Katee Lee, Caleb, Candace, Gideon, Bronson, Hollie and Samantha. Beverly had 6 great grandchildren, Joseph, Ezraleah, Neomiah, Kylo, Jaxin and Bailey Moon. She had a large loving extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews, along with great nieces and nephews. Ms. McElroy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Aurelia Sellman, and her brothers Ken Shockey and Jim Shockey. The memorial and interment for Beverly will be scheduled for later this summer in Moriarty, NM.
