Beverly Rossi, age 89, of
Statesville, NC (formerly of
Gang Mills, NY), died at home on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023, amongst her family after a brief illness.
Beverly Rice Rossi was married to August Rossi who preceded her in death in 2019. Beverly was the only child of Robert and Mildred Rice of St. Mary's, Pennsylvania.
Beverly was widely know in the Painted Post area for her piano skills. She played the pipe organ at the Methodist Church (now United Church) for over 50 years. She also was a part-time music teacher at Calvin U. Smith Elementary School in the Corning-Painted Post Area School District. Her husband, "Gus", was the love of her life, and they spent many hours together in the garden on Gray Lane in Gang Mills.
Only a few people knew, but Bev was a crackerjack shot with a shot gun. She frequently challenged her son to a contest, shooting clay pigeons, and often won. She also had a fear of chickens, and her grandsons always had fun razzing her about that one. Her 5 grandchildren were the center of her universe. She adored these children (grown now) and actively stayed involved in almost every event they ever participated in. She and Gus never missed a local high school game at Bath Central School, where Mike and Nick, her grandsons, played sports. Bev and Gus made every single college lacrosse game of their grandson, Nick, both home and away games. She was so proud of Mike as he belted out songs from Aida, the musical in school. She was so proud of Brad and his wonderful family; she beamed about his volleyball career and big sales job at CINTAS. She told everyone that her granddaughter, Lexi, was a police detective, just like SVU. And Tony. "We're gonna watch him on TV someday striking out Derek Jeter. That boy can pitch!"
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Rhonda Haring) Rossi of
Statesville, NC, James Rossi of
Orlando, FL, and Tony (Kim Letterio) Rossi of
Sanford, FL; grandchildren: Brad (Lindsay Brown) Rossi of
High Point, NC, Michael Rossi of
Denver, NC, Nicklaus Rossi of
Statesville, NC, Lexi Rossi of
Sanford, FL, and Tony Rossi of
Sanford, FL; and let's not forget her two great-grandchildren, Addie and Beckett Rossi of
High Point, NC.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 10:30 am at The United Church of Painted Post, 201 N. Hamilton St., Painted Post, NY 14870. Burial will be held in Coopers Plains Cemetery.
