Beverly Jean Steinberger was born in Estherville Iowa on March 23, 1934, to Norman and Velma (Fisher) Syverson. She attended country school until 8th grade and then attended and graduated with the Class of 1952 from Estherville High School. She was proud of the fact that with the exception of having chickenpox, she had perfect attendance.
After graduation she worked at a Ben Franklin store and then a chicken processing plant where she met her future husband, Robert Steinberger. Bob and Bev were married on August 15, 1956, and made their home in Spirit Lake where they raised their two daughters. In the late 60’s and 70’s, Bev worked part-time for Donovan Leyson Funeral Home, which later became Turner Jenness Funeral Home. From there, she opened her home and heart to daycare. She took care of nearly 70 kids in a forty-year time span. It was at this time she earned the nickname “Gramma Bev” and she embraced it proudly.
Bev loved her family, all children, owls, holidays, Bingo and the Minnesota Twins. Although she stood only 4’11” tall, she possessed the spunk and determination of someone 10’ tall. She could be known to be stubborn and headstrong, but she also had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others. She will always be remembered for her scarves, sparkly hats and her jewelry.
The past three years were spent at Accura Healthcare where she thought the world of the entire staff and residents. She also enjoyed and respected her hospice care team. To her, each and every one of you were her friends!
Bev passed away October 15, 2025, at Accura Healthcare at ninety-one years of age.
She is survived by her two daughters, Connie (Al) Tolan and Colleen Frederick (Jim Campbell); grandkids, Curt (Jane) Edmunds, Candee (Gary) Mills, Jesse (Amy) Frederick, Sara Edmunds and bonus grandson, Dennis Tolan; five great-grandkids, three bonus great-grandkids and three bonus great-great-grandkids; five nieces and two nephews; sister-in-law, Jeanette Syverson.
Welcoming her into heaven are her husband, Bob, who passed away October 17, 2001; her parents; brother, Donald Syverson; sister, Evelyn (Arnold) Thorsland; grandson, Cory Edmunds; step-grandson, Arnold Tolan; two sisters-in-law, Rose Huse and Lucille Mitchell and two nieces, Paula and Shelley.
We will always love you and miss you dearly. Rest in peace “Gramma Bev” – your work on earth is done!
