1929 – 2025

Centerville, UT - Beverly "Betty" Smith Thompson, our loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025.

Betty was born on May 3, 1929, at home in Centerville, Utah where she resided her entire life, to Joseph Robert Smith and Laura Stoker Smith. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up surrounded by family, love, and strong values that she carried throughout her life. She graduated from Davis High School in 1947.

In 1949, Betty married the love of her life, Wayne S. Thompson. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with three children. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Bountiful Utah Temple. Their marriage was one of devotion, partnership, and enduring love.

Betty spent her early working years at her sister's dress shop, Emilee's, in Bountiful, Utah. She later worked for the Centerville Post Office, where she dedicated 23 years of service and became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Betty served in many callings throughout her life. She was a lifelong caregiver, selflessly caring for numerous family members and friends, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Robyn Mecham (Ken) and Paula Tanabe (Jeff), both of Centerville; five grandchildren: Heather Page (Rob), Michelle Kesler, Lisa Malmstrom (Scott), Kenny Mecham (Stephanie), and Emilee Ariotti (Kyle); seventeen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and her special niece, Penny Cahoon, who held a dear place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her six siblings; her beloved husband, Wayne S. Thompson; and her son, Jay W. Thompson.

Betty's life was one of service, love, and quiet devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family and friends. We hope she has a cookie jar in heaven so we can all have an Oreo when we see her again.

We'd like to thank her nurses Selene, Nan, Raylyn and Becky for helping take such good care of her in the end.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29th, 2025, at the Centerville 1st Ward Chapel, 160 S. 300 E. Centerville, Utah. A viewing will be held Monday morning from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment at Centerville City Cemetery.
