Thomas Richard "Big Rickey" Brister, age 74

February 4, 1952 – March 13, 2026

Thomas Richard Brister, known to those closest to him as "Big Rickey," was born on February 4, 1952, in Winfield, Louisiana. He passed peacefully from this life on March 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Big Rickey was a lifelong farmer in West Carroll and Morehouse Parishes, where he spent decades working the land he loved. Over the years he successfully farmed acres upon acres of rice, corn, cotton, and soybeans. Farming was never just a job to Rickey-it was a way of life and a true family affair. He shared the long days and hard work alongside his beloved wife, Belen, and their sons, Little Rickey and Ryan. Those years were filled with long hours, laughter, plenty of jokes, and memories that will be cherished by the family forever.

Outside of the fields, Rickey was an avid hunter and fisherman. Many hunting seasons were spent sitting patiently in his deer stand-always well stocked with snacks-waiting on the next big buck. Rickey was known for his tenacity and his quick wit. He kept everyone around him on their toes, never knowing what he might say next. He lived life by his own rules, and those who knew him best wouldn't have had it any other way.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Belen Brister; his sons Rickey Brister and wife Chesslye, and Ryan Brister and wife Lacey; and his cherished grandchildren Gracie Claire, Madelyn, Kaylee, Kiley, Riley, and John David.

A private celebration of life honoring Big Rickey will be held at the family home on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Oak Woods in Mer Rouge for the care, compassion, and support they provided throughout this journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
