Bill "Sonny" Gaston

Bill "Sonny" Gaston, a cherished member of the community, passed away on June 4, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on December 21, 1938, in Eight Mile, Alabama, Bill's journey through life was marked by a profound love for his family
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Pete Gaston and Ethel Tupler, and his former wife, Josephine "Jo" Gervase Gaston.
He is survived by his loving partner, Michele Statler of Fairhope, AL, who was by his side every day and cared for him deeply; as well as his brother, Mike Gaston of the Philippines; his children, Shane Gaston (Deborah) of Helena, AL, Chance Gaston of Mauldin, SC, and Ron Gaston (Kyla) of Spanish Fort, AL. He was a proud grandfather to Connor, Lillie, Hanna, Cody, Sofia, Sarah, and Isabella, and great-grandfather to Mayola and Charlotte.
A graduate of Vigor High School, class of 1957, Bill maintained a strong connection to his alma mater, serving with the Alumni Chapter. He furthered his education at the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating in 1961 with a degree that would shape his professional and personal endeavors.
After college, he joined the Army to serve during the Vietnam era. He was an Honorary Member of the Order of Inca for over 50 years enjoying the revelry of the season. Everyone that knew him knew he loved to dance.
One of Bill's greatest passions was traveling in his Airstream where he explored new horizons and created cherished memories and made many new friends.
He was a member of the Fairhope Elks Lodge #1879.
Bill's love for Hobie Sailing was evident as he was one of the originating members of Hobie Fleet 76 in Fairhope. He passed along his love for Hobie Sailing to his sons and grandkids.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the great doctors and staff at Dr. Mark Wiles, Dr. Jason Cole, Dr. James Dean, Dr. Michael Jacobs and Dr. Robert Menzies offices for their compassionate care.
Services to honor Bill's life will be held at 2PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 Hwy. 225 in Spanish Fort, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to your favorite charity.
Bill's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of his family and friends.
