Graham – Billy Lee Mitchell, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Durham County on June 12, 1941 to the late Jessie Lee and Elsie Mae Porterfield Mitchell and was the husband of 62 years to Barbara Ann Carter Mitchell of the home.
Bill was a member of The Lamb’s Chapel and a longtime member of Peoples Memorial Christian Church where he was led to the Lord by Rev. Max Allman and later baptized by Rev. Karl Coke. For nearly four and a half decades, Bill provided quality roofing services to the community as the Owner/Operator of Mitchell Roofing and also owned several rental houses. Bill was an antique car enthusiast, spending hours on end buying, painting and restoring numerous antique cars. His true joy, however, was found spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill was a kindhearted, honest and generous individual who helped shape the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted wife Barbara; daughter Penny Hollars (Jay); sons Randy Mitchell (Annette), Michael Mitchell, Jeff Mitchell (Giselle); grandchildren Amber Bowen (Matt), Ashlee Mitchell, Dylon Mitchell, Grantt Mitchell, Aaron Mitchell, Olivia Mitchell, Heidi Mitchell; great-grandchildren Carter Bowen and Alexandra Bowen; special niece Priscilla Holmes; sisters Patricia Thompson, Judy Fowler (Harry); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Johnny Mitchell, and his sister Florine Taylor.
A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at The Lamb's Chapel - Airport Campus. Visitation will take place from 12:00 - 1:45pm prior to the service at the church. The Family will also be taking visitors at the home of son, Jeff Mitchell- located at 3340 Guilford County Farm Rd. Elon, NC 27244.
A private graveside service will take place at Alamance Memorial Park.
