The Quail was my favorite player as a boy. He ate a lot of “cans of corn”.

So very saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. In addition to being a super baseball guy, he was a true gentleman. In the early 1990’s, Bill was The Commissioner for our Fantasy Baseball camp in Bradenton. He was one of the reasons all the participants had a great time. Lastly, Bill and I were both Shriners and shared a fraternal bond. Rest In Peace Brother Bill.

Another book closes on a MLB legend. My brother, Bruce, always maintained admiration and respect for Bill as a coach, manager and a friend. May they meet again at the "yard" above.

Dear Family of former Yankees manager Bill Virdon,

He came into his own in 1974, and if he had a few more pieces, as Mel Stootlemyre went down finishing 6-7, could of won the division, but the Orioles were too pitching rich with McNally, Cuellar, Palmer, and Grimsley. The early season unpopular trade showed how he could welcome two future stars in Chambliss and Tidrow, to gel with newly acquired Lou Piniella.
As he didn't last 1975, baseball under George was born.
I liked his laid backed style.
