Bill Weatherby, of San Angelo, passed away on April 15th, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born on June 15th, 1937 in San Angelo, TX to parents Marvin and Annaleigh (Richburg) Weatherby.
He grew up in Miles, TX where he graduated from Miles High School in 1955. He went on to attend San Angelo College and Texas Tech University, graduating with a degree in Agricultural Education. At Tech he was a proud member of the livestock judging team and competed at the national level in Oklahoma City and Chicago.
While in college he enlisted in the Army National Guard, and was called to active duty in 1961. Bill married Tommie Phillips Weatherby while he was stationed in Fort Polk, LA in February of 1962. After his service they moved to San Angelo where he became a proud father to three daughters and began his lifelong career of buying and selling sheep for Armor, Montfort, Midwest Feed Yards, and Bill Weatherby Livestock.
He was very involved in judging and supporting area stock shows and youth. Bill served as a director of the San Angelo Stock Show and for over 25 years was the superintendent of the sheep and goat division. Bill also served on the board of directors for Paint Rock State Bank and was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association.
Bill was promoted to his favorite title "Papa" in 1998 and was dearly loved by his four grandchildren. Throughout his life he was an avid sports fan, supporting Texas Tech, the Texas Rangers, and everything that aired on ESPN. He especially loved watching his grandchildren participate in their sports and activities, traveling across the state and nation to cheer them on.
He was known for his honesty and integrity, always believing that a man's word was his bond. Up until his last day he loved and cared for his family and friends above all else.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Tommie, daughters Karen Weatherby and Sherry (Weatherby) Smith both of San Angelo, Lisa (Weatherby) Barrett of Lubbock, grandchildren Jaclyn and Brooke Barrett, Jansen and Payne Smith, brother Gary and wife Donna Weatherby, brothers-in-law Mickey Phillips, Larry and wife Anne Phillips, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as special friends.
