Billie Jean Keene

Billie Jean Keene, 89 years of age, of Grundy, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Commonwealth Senior Living with her family by her side. Born March 6, 1936, in Home Creek, VA, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Sally Samson Keen.
Billie was of the Pentecostal faith and was retired from Buchanan County School System where she worked as a Cafeteria Manager at J.M. Bevins Elementary School for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Buford Burton Keene; daughter Robin Renae Comfort; son Michael D. Keene; sister Bernice Matney; and brothers Jimmy, Leon and Douglas Keen.
Survivors include daughters Karen Ratliff and husband Sammie of Pounding Mill, VA, Gail Herring and husband Tim of Grundy, VA; sister Charlotte Compton of Grundy, VA; brother Harry Keen of SC; daughter-in-law Sally Keene of Grundy, VA; and son-in-law Danny Comfort of Grundy, VA
She is also survived by grandchildren Amber (Shawn) Bucklen, Brian Keene, Tonya (Doug) Coleman, Kristy (Chris) Perkins, Keevin (Kelly) Hurley; and several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Billie Jean Keene will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Keen Mountain, VA, with Pastor Doug Allen and Pastor Mickey Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.
Pallbearers will be Brian Keene, Keevin Hurley, Douglas Coleman, Shaun Bucklen, Danny Comfort and Tim Herring.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.
