On March 20th, 2026 Bill Broom ,93, of Franklin NC passed away at home with his beloved wife Charis Bruton Broom, of 73 years, by his side.
Bill was born in Union County North Carolina on March 9th 1933. As a young man he went to work for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph. He and Charis were married in 1952. Shortly after they moved to Lake Worth Florida were they stayed until 1990.
In 1991 Bill and Charis moved to Franklin North Carolina. They explored the mountains, had a beautiful garden and canned its riches. They made many wonderful friends in Franklin.
Mitchell and Gloria Cabe, Je and Michaelle Runkin and Cody and Tracy Cabe have become their second family.
Bill was an honorable man devoted to his family. His respect for all living things was passed on to his children by the way he lived his life. He had a deep respect for nature and a keen awareness of man’s responsibility to live in harmony with it. He loved music, sang in the church choir and always whistled around the house and in the garden.
Bill is survived by his wife Charis Broom, son Brandon Broom (Kim), daughter Nora Katon (Bill), granddaughter Keri Gates (Volkmar) and great granddaughter Charlie VanCantfort.
He is preceded in death by his son Gregory Broom.
A celebration of his life will be held at Patton Global Methodist Church in Franklin NC. Saturday March 28th. Visitation will be at 10:00 with service starting at 11:00 o ciated by Pastor Edward Evans.
