Billy Eugene Bryan, born on September 24, 1939, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, was a man whose life was deeply rooted in love, family, and faithful devotion. The beloved son of the late Edward and Flora Russell Bryan, Billy’s journey was one of quiet strength and unwavering dedication.

He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Billie D. Evans, whom he married on June 15, 1963. Their partnership spanned an incredible 57 years and 20 days—a testament to their deep commitment and affection for each other. Billie’s passing in July 2020 left a profound emptiness, yet their memories remain a beacon of enduring love. Known for his gentle spirit, Billy rarely said no to his wife, supporting her every whim from shopping trips to travels, with only a Hawaii trip remaining an exception. His favorite place was always at home, savoring his wife’s cooking—a true mark of his appreciation, as a compliment from Billy meant a meal met the highest standard. His fondness for sweets was often warmly noted by Billie, who affectionately said he had “a mouth full of sweet teeth.”

Together, Billy and Billie nurtured a loving family, raising two sons and later delighting in their grandchildren. Billy embraced his role as Papaw with boundless joy and energy. His yard transformed into a vibrant sports complex where he coached, played quarterback, or pitched alongside his grandchildren, always eager to cheer them from the sidelines. His presence was a constant, steady source of encouragement and love, whether at ball games, hunting trips, or festive Fourth of July celebrations. Traditions like movie outings to see Titanic and Spice World or excursions to skating rinks created cherished memories that bound their family together.

His special bond with great-granddaughter Meredith was a touching highlight in his later years, marked by weekly Subway dates and rarely ever missing one of her softball games. Meredith truly became his little shadow, a symbol of his caring and devoted heart.

Billy’s life extended beyond family; he was a humble provider and a man who found joy in simple pleasures—morning coffee outdoors, the peaceful embrace of the woods while hunting, catfishing down by the dam, and losing himself in the works of Louis L’Amour and John Grisham or reading the daily newspaper. He treasured the quiet moments surrounded by God’s creation and the laughter of his grandchildren.

A faithful member of West Shiloh Baptist Church in Shiloh, Tennessee, Billy also served his country with honor in the United States Army, spending two years in Germany. For many years, he worked delivering gas for AmeriGas, building lasting friendships along the way.

Billy Eugene Bryan peacefully departed this life on March 29, 2026, in Shiloh, Tennessee, at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 5 days. He is lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren—Sarah Cagle, Paige Deer, Brooke Burks, and Bryan Burks—and his great-grandchildren Patrick, Wally, and Max Cagle, and Meredith Jones, along with a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Billie; parents, Edward and Flora Bryan; two sons, Randall and Sidney Burks; brother, Glen Bryan; and sisters, Mary Francis Middleton, Norma Jean Parker, and Margaret Louise King.

Billy’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and kindness—a quiet hero who touched the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will forever live on in the family he so dearly loved and the lives he enriched.
