Billy Paul Ewell, 90, of Marion, IL made his final journey at 2:18 pm Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Macedonia Cemetery in Mitchellsville, IL. There will be no visitation all friends and family should go directly to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Macedonia Cemetery or Harrisburg Unit 3 Music Department. Military Rites will be held by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legions, VFW and the Army National Guard Ritual Team. Felty Funeral Home of Carrier Mills, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
Billy was born on October 14, 1935 in Rudement, IL to the late Virgil and Lola (Gibbs) Ewell.
He married the former Gradie Sue Austin on October 15, 1954, she preceded him in death on February 26, 2020.
Billy graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1954, then went to serve his country in the U.S. Army until 1961. He worked as a farmer, bookkeeper and for Harrisburg Hospital before opening his own floral shop “Blossoms and Balloons” that he operated for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Freemasons since 1974; deacon for 60+ years, and member of Paradise Alley players. Billy was also the worship leader for: College Heights Baptist Church in Eldorado, IL; First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills, IL and The Church of God in Marion, IL. He held many talents and passions, being an accomplished pianist since the age of 13 and an avid painter.
Billy is survived by his 2 Sons: Kevin Paul (Gail) Ewell of Pittsburg, IL and Eric Christian (Christina) Ewell of Herrin, IL; 2 Grandsons: Kaleb Christian (Brooklyn) of Marion, IL and Carsen Kohl Ewell of Herrin, IL; Great-grandson Keller Christian Ewell; Sister-in-law Rosalie (Dennis) Sinnett of Fort Collins, CO; 2 Brothers-in-law: Dan (Brenda) Austin and Luther Austin; 2 Nephews: Marty (Donna) Austin of Marion, IL and Eddie (LeAndra) of Buffalo, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Lola Ewell and wife Gradie Ewell.
