Billy Maxwell Hansard, known to many as “Papa” for his paternal compassion, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his home on February 28, 2026, after 85 years of life. He was born in Cumming, Georgia on December 20, 1940, where he later returned after raising his three children to reside with his wife, Cathy. He graduated from Roswell High School and later served his country in the Georgia Army National Guard. Preceded in death by his mother, Clura Cook, father, William Shelton Hansard, 6 sisters and 3 brothers.
Billy’s front door was open to anyone, wherein they’d find him glowing as the heart of his home. He was a grounding force among his large extended family, whose happiness was his greatest joy. Everyone knew him as a caring comedian. Among his simple pleasures were playing cards with friends, old Westerns and homemade chocolate pudding. Others who will remember Billy fondly include his friends, neighbors, and his church congregation, who visited and called him often. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, three children Lin (Shannon), Angela (Ted), and Keith (Amanda), five grandchildren Evan (Amanda), Emily, Krystin (Austin), Ayla, and Truett, and beloved Teddy Roosevelt Terrier, Tumbleweed.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 3rd at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA.
Visitation will be from 12pm-2pm, funeral service at 2pm.
Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA.
Officiants: Dr. James Caldwell and Rev. Ken Bennett
