Billy Joe Hunter, age 92, of Young Harris, Georgia passed away Monday, October 31, 2022. Billy was born to the late Carl and Ruth (Peterman) Hunter in Dothan, Alabama on August 16, 1930. He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. He met Carolyn Tyre in Jacksonville, Florida; they married and had two daughters Karen and Laurie. He was a devoted husband and father; he often worked overtime to insure his wife and daughters were well taken care of and later in life cared for his wife before she passed. He moved to Hiawassee, Georgia where he became a devoted friend to many in his community, looking after his neighbors' lawns. He met DeAnne Stuart Earley and they married August 11, 2013 and had nine years of a blessed marriage; they have loved, worked and went on many trips together; the two did everything together. He was preceded in death by his parents; baby daughter, Janet Louise Hunter; and his first wife, Carolyn (Tyre) Hunter. He is survived in death by his wife, Deanne (Stuart) Hunter; daughters, Karen Ruth (Jerry) Townsend and Laurie Jo (David) George; step-children, Brenda Lee Hunt and Kenneth Vincent Earley; grandchildren, Amy (Robert) Strickler, Nathan Townsend, and Daniel, Allison, and Brian (Rachel) George; step-grandchildren, Jerry (Ashley) Hunt, Jessica (Michael) Malenozsky; great grandchildren, Kora, George, Brian Jr. George, Zak Earley and Derek Earley; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Emma, Marly and Dominique; step-great grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Abigail, Amy, Landon and Lauren. Visitation: Sunday, November 6, 2022 2:00-3:00PM at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church Funeral: Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 3:00PM at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Osborn cemetery. Banister-Cooper is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Hunter.
