Billy Allen Hunter

Funeral services for Bill Hunter, 91, of Chandler, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Rock Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Heath Peloquin and Pastor Mickey Ellis officiating.

Mr. Hunter passed away on February 5, 2026, in Tyler.

Billy Allen Hunter was born on December 20, 1934, in Heflin, Louisiana, the son of Leslie Hunter and Minnie (Hausey) Hunter. He graduated from Heflin High School in 1952. Bill was a store manager for Hodges in Dallas for several years before beginning a long career with Tecon Corporation, where he worked as a water systems operator for 38 years prior to his retirement. Bill enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, camping, fishing, and thrifting for brass. Church was a very important part of his life. He led song services and sang in a quartet, and the group was even featured on the radio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Johnny Hunter, Lester Hunter, and Leslie Hunter.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Linda Hunter of Chandler; his daughters, Lori McGill and husband Randy of Chandler, and Leslie Kerns and husband Brent of Tyler; his grandchildren, Chris McGill, Chad McGill, Heather Cagle and husband Kevin, Mackenzie Kerns and husband Jerrel, Kendall Kerns and wife Kendall, Quinton Kerns, and Logan Kerns and wife Gabbie; and his great-grandchildren, Katie Cagle, Grayson Kerns, Eli James Kerns, and Jack Kerns; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Butler, Danny Crossley, Chris McGill, Kendall Kerns, Quinton Kerns, and Logan Kerns. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Touchstone, Chris Boyd, John McCullough, David Hatt, and Paul Marshall.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and compassionate staff of UT Health East Texas and Hospice of East Texas for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided during this time.
