Mr. Kirkendoll, 61 years old, died Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Skyline Medical Center, Nashville. He was born on May 9, 1962, in Chicago, IL to Jene C. Kirkendoll and Virgie M. Hudgins. He is a graduate of Henry County High School in 1980. After high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines, San Diego, GA, Memphis, TN and Pensacola, FL. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Petty Officer First Class. When stationed in Memphis, he traveled to Paris, TN weekly to look after his father who was ill, and met Ellen Pounds, the love of his life. They married in 1998 and moved to Pensacola, Fl., where he was stationed. When he retired from the Navy after 20 years, they settled in McKenzie.
He had many gifts. He was resourceful, smart as a whip and good with his hands. He worked for Mars, Inc. until they closed and then for Kohler, Union City. His work ethic in any job could not be matched. He left everything better than he found it. Billy was a loyal husband, brother, son and friend.
His passion outside of work was helping veterans at VFW Post 4939. He and his wife Ellen, devoted much time to the “V”. They also fostered dogs and cats until they could find a permanent home.
He is survived by his sister Delores M. Pedigo (Wendell), brother B.J. Kirkendoll, stepdaughter Lena Wilkerson (Shane) and family, stepson Kelly Pounds (Aundie) and family, niece Cynthia Wynn, nephew Christopher Wynn and great nephew, Henry Wynn and his beloved dogs and cats.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ellen, mother and father and brother Jacob D. Kirkendoll.
