James William “Billy” Laurey, 69, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 17, 2025, at his home. He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories.
Born in Allendale, SC, Billy was the son of Jo Anne Peeples Laurey and the late George Laurey. He dedicated 33 years of his professional career to SRNS, retiring in 2014. An enthusiast of the great outdoors, Billy found joy in hunting and fishing, embracing every opportunity to connect with nature and those around him. His vibrant spirit ensured that there was never a dull moment in the eyes of those who knew him.
Billy is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Mary Ann Hartline Laurey; their daughter, Angie Franklin (Kip) Wilson of Columbia, SC; son, James (Meghan) Laurey of Washington, NC; his mother, Jo Anne Laurey of Barnwell; brother-in-law, Jerry Hartline of Beech Island, SC; along with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Franklin Hornsby; brother-in-law, Charles Hartline and sister-in-law, Linda Jarrett.
In honor of Billy’s memory, no services are planned at this time. Friends and family are encouraged to memorialize his spirit through contributions to the American Heart Association (heart.org).
