Billy Lester Obituary

BILLY EUGENE LESTER, known affectionately to friends and family as Bill, was born on April 7, 1949, in Logan, West Virginia. He departed this life peacefully at home on November 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy marked by service, love, and devotion. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, a chapter of his life that exemplified his commitment to others. His dedication to service continued as he worked at the VA hospital, where he touched countless lives. He was not just an employee but a compassionate presence in the lives of many veterans and their families. Bill served as a Deacon at the West Moreland Church, guiding others with his faith and kindness. He continued his service at Eastpointe Christian Church as a greeter and usher, where his strong belief in community and connection was evident in every aspect of his life. He nurtured relationships that spanned decades, building a network of friends and loved ones who cherished his warm spirit. In his educational pursuits, Bill graduated from Marshall University, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to bettering himself and those around him. His journey through life was characterized by his love for family and an unyielding commitment to being present for those he cared about. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lester, with whom he shared 13 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a home filled with laughter and warmth. He cherished his children: Andy (Kessach), Jonathan, and Amy (Ty Bays), and embraced his role as a step-parent to Robert Mutter (Bailee), John Mutter (Deceased) and Cyndole Messer (Calvin). Bill took immense pride in being a grandfather, and his grandchildren Brittany Mencotti, Drake and Brody Lester, Jocelyn, Jacob, Jonah, Hailey and Rylie Mutter, Avery, and Ellynor Messer were the light of his life. His family ties included siblings Jennifer (Pete) Milano, Larry (Linda) and Mike (Colleen) Lester, all of whom provided love and support throughout his journey. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Lester and Grace (Huffman) Lester, who instilled in him the values of kindness, resilience, and love for family that he carried through his life.
A visitation will be held to honor Bill's life on December 5, 2025, from 12 - 1 p.m., at Eastpointe Christian Church, located at 745 N Waggoner Rd, Columbus, OH 43004. Following the visitation, a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., providing family and friends the opportunity to celebrate Bill's profound impact on their lives. As we reflect on Bill's life, let us remember his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and dedication will forever reside in our hearts.
