Billy H. Parrish, beloved father, grandfather and dedicated public servant passed away on November 5, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 87. Born on June 5, 1937, in St. Paul, North Carolina, Billy's life was marked by a commitment to service, family, and community.
Following his high school graduation, Billy served his country proudly in the United States Navy, where he became a parachute rigger. After his military service, he embarked on a diverse career path, beginning with KLM Airlines as an aircraft marshaller. Eventually, he took the police exam and became a police officer, a role he embraced for twenty years with the Suffolk County Police Department in the 1st precinct. Among his many duties, he cherished his time in the K-9 unit alongside his loyal dog, Max, who later joined the family as a cherished pet.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Billy had a range of interests that enriched his life. He was passionate about woodworking, gardening, photography, and reading. A man of adventure, he found great joy in riding his motorcycle, creating memories and connections throughout his journey. Billy was deeply committed to serving his community, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends. His legacy of kindness and dedication will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Pauline Parrish and her partner Cathy Wilson; his son, William Parrish and his wife Staci; and two grandchildren, David and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the late Bonnie Parrish; his late brother, Bobby Parrish; and his parents, Fred and Zelda Parrish. He is predeceased also by his constant companion, Daisy, his beloved dog.
A graveside service to honor Billy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Saint Charles Cemetery in East Farmingdale, New York, beginning at 12:00 PM. Friends of Billy's are invited to gather at the cemetery in remembrance of a remarkable man who gave so much to those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Billy's name to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Alzheimer's Association.
