Billy Alton Ray, 72 of Temple, Texas, passed away on November 29, 2025. Born on July 10, 1953, in Temple, Texas, he was the son of W.B. and Eileen Ray.
Billy grew up in Temple and later attended Temple Junior College. Billy devoted more than 25 years of his career to the Santa Fe Railroad, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. He was reliable, humble, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Billy’s life was defined by kindness, generosity, and a genuine desire to put others first. Whether helping a neighbor, supporting a friend, or simply showing up with a smile, he lived each day with a servant's heart.
Above all, Billy deeply loved his family. He was their compass—guiding with kindness, steadiness, and gentle wisdom. His family never felt lost when he was near; he instinctively knew how to encourage, support, and walk beside them through every season of life.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, W.B. and Eileen Ray, and brother, Eddie Ray.
He is survived by his daughters, Katie Mays of Pflugerville, and Macy Petru of Belton; his brothers, Tom Ray and Gary Ray of Temple, and four cherished granddaughters: Haylee & Preslee Mays, and Kinsley & Aynsley Petru.
A private burial for immediate family will be held, with a celebration of Billy’s life to follow in the coming months.
